Biography

Dr. Albert K. Liau is the Assistant Head of Research for the Psychological Studies Academic Group of the National Institute of Education, at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He is a Developmental Psychologist and his recent research interests include personal strengths, resilience, the social-emotional development of children, and the social impact of Internet and video-game use on children and adolescents. He is the author of an strengths-based instrument called the Personal Strengths Inventory, and has co-authored the book, What Do I Say to My Net-Savvy Kids: Internet Safety Issues for Parents.

Dr. Albert Liau has published in numerous journals on the following topics: investigating the influence of emotional intelligence on problem behaviors in secondary schools, evaluating a violence prevention program in elementary schools, studying bullying in schools, evaluating of a group treatment program for youth offenders, and an investigating the levels of cognitive distortion in juvenile delinquents. He has also received numerous grants over the years to support research in a variety of areas such as examining the social impact of the Internet on children and adolescents. He is currently a National Advisory Board Member for the Institute for the Study and Prevention of Violence at Kent State University.
