Indian Institute of Management Bangalore
Prof. Albert Heuberger is executive director of Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Erlangen. He also holds the chair for information technology at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Before, he was head of the IIS department “Communications” with the main focuses “Digital Broadcasting” and “Localization and Communication” in Nürnberg. After his doctoral thesis on “Quality of service in digital satellite broadcasting” professor Heuberger returned to Erlangen via the Ilmenau University of Technology. His research focuses on Internet-of-Things (IoT) communication, positioning, and cognitive sensor technologies.

- Systems development for digital radio and TV broadcasting and for mobile TV
- New Forward Error Correction systems both on Physical Layer and Application Layer
- Multi-Antenna (MIMO) systems for broadcasting applications
- Hybrid satellite/terrestrial networks
Milestones
- 1995 – Subproject Leader in JESSI-DAB project (analog front end): work on an integrated circuit for an HF front end for reception of DAB signals
- 1994/95 – Collaboration in various work groups in DAB project, e.g. WorldDAB Module 4 (satellite broadcasting), and work on standardization
- 1996/97 – Work on WorldSpace system (satellite-based radio system for portable receivers)
- From 1997 – XM Satellite Radio: work on system concept, specification, and measurement campaigns for channel characterization and system validation
- 2000-2002 – WorldSpace mobile system (DH system in ITU Recommendation BO.1130-4)
- Since 2000 – Work on Digital Radio Mondiale project, realization of the first channel simulator and a software-based reference receiver, collaboration on standardization (as Vice Chairman of the Technical Committee)
- Since 2013 (May) – Member of the Board of Directors, Medical Valley Europäische Metropolregion (EMN) e. V.
