Alan Taylor

Research Expertise:  International trade, finance, macroeconomics and economic history Professor Alan Taylor teaches economics and finance at the University of California, Davis, with appointments in the Department of Economics and the Graduate School of Management. He is also a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Mass., and a research fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research in London. He serves as a co-editor at the Journal of International Economics. His publications include numerous articles in a range of economics journals including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of International Economics, and the Journal of Economic History, edited volumes and the books Global Capital Markets: Integration, Crisis and Growth published by Cambridge University Press (with Maurice Obstfeld), and Straining at the Anchor: The Argentine Currency Board and the Search for Macroeconomic Stability, 1880–1935 published by The University of Chicago Press (with Gerardo della Paolera); and essays on policy and commentary in the Financial Times, Foreign Affairs, Reuters, ft.com and vox.eu, among other publications. In 2004 he was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship. In 2009–10 he was named a Houblon-Norman/George Fellow at the Bank of England. He has been a visitor, consultant and speaker at many public sector organizations, including the IMF, World Bank, IDB, ECB, BIS, various Federal Reserve Banks and the central banks of France, Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Croatia and Argentina. He also has served as a senior advisor at Morgan Stanley and has been a consultant to various asset managers. He read mathematics at King’s College, Cambridge, and graduated with a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
