Alan joined the Scheller College of Business as an adjunct professor in the January 2001 and has held a number of positions at the university including Director of the DuPree Center for Entrepreneurship, Director of the TI:GER Program, and Director of the Georgia Tech Business Plan Competition. As an adjunct professor Alan has taught over 150 courses in the College of Business primarily in Entrepreneurship, Technology Commercialization, Corporate Innovation, Principles of Management, Management Consulting, and eCommerce. He also serves as an advisor to various student clubs and organizations as well as works directly with students and alumni developing entrepreneurial ventures. Prior to joining the faculty at Georgia Tech Alan spent 26 years with Accenture LTD, 13 years as a Partner. There he assisted large Fortune 1000 companies in strategic and operational initiatives in a variety of business function and industry settings -- mainly products and financial services organizations. He also held a number of regional leadership positions with the firm and was responsible for Accenture’s Insurance Industry practice in the southeast at the time he retired in August 2000. Alan has also been a minority interest owner, COO and CFO for Liberty/MSC, electronics retail start-up with a niche market focused on US Military personnel. With two other entrepreneurs, he grew the firm from a start-up to a $27 million dollar business over a 15-month period. Alan received a Bachelors degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech in 1972 and a MBA in Finance from Emory University in 1973. He is active in the local entrepreneurial community and is involved in creating linkages between Atlanta area investors and Georgia Tech student and alumni entrepreneurs.

  • Instructor at Scheller College of Business (2001 to current) Taught courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level (over 200 courses) in eCommerce, Entrepreneurship, Principles of Management, Technology Commercialization, and Management Consulting. Serve as faculty advisor to Delta Sigma Phi, the e-Club and the Consulting Club. Co-director of the Georgia Tech Business Plan Competition (2001-2008). Developed and taught 3 credit hour distance learning courses for Professional Masters in Manufacturing Leadership and the MS in Data Analytics.
  • Director -- The Georgia Tech Business Plan Competition (2009 to 2014). Responsible for directing both the Business Plan and Ideas to SERVE Competitions. Director actives include competition planning, soliciting sponsorships (both cash and service), conducting a workshop series, soliciting judges, hosting several reception events, and administering the competitions themselves. Typically about 100 to 150 students participate each year.
  • Director of the Georgia Tech Ideas to Serve Competition (2010 to 2012). Responsible for developing the competition concept and directing this venture ideas competition focused on social entrepreneurship. Each year this competition attracts between 40 to 50 mostly undergraduate participants who compete for cash prizes and the opportunity to share their social ideas with local community and business leaders.
  • Director – TI:GER (2002 to 2004). TI:GER is an NSF funded program in technology commercialization for selected PhDs in Science and Technology, MBAs, and JDs (law students). Responsibilities included recruiting students (approximately 100 in total), designing and conducting TI:GER-specific academic courses in technology commercialization, and mentoring TI:GER-specific entrepreneurship teams.
  • Director – Dupree Center for Entrepreneurship (2001 to 2002). Responsible for entrepreneurship outreach programs, the Georgia Tech Business Plan Competition, the e-Club (student entrepreneurship club); the Idea lab; and issuing academic certificates in entrepreneurship.
  • Prior to joing Scheller Alan was a partner at Accenture. At Accenture he developed and managed long-term client relationships and over the course of his career worked mainly in the Products and Financial Services industries.
