Alan Raymond Fine has been a faculty member at the Carlson School since 1995.  He was a founder of the Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Program (submitting a proposal for the program with Alfie Marcus, Priti Shah, Bruce Erickson, and Dick Cardozo [and which was ultimately approved by the curriculum committee in 1998]) and served as its first director.  Fine was also the founder of the Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Club which is now a vibrant component of the undergraduate program at the Carlson School (and to which he advised through 2002).

Fine has taught more than 150 class sections over the past 19 years (both MBA and undergraduate courses) in the areas of entrepreneurship, business strategy, management, accounting and management information systems.  Fine has worked extensively to develop new curriculum in entrepreneurship.  Moreover, he has taught more than 5,000 students during his time at the Carlson School of Management and received several teaching awards.

Four several years, Fine was the lead instructor for the LEAD Program at Carlson (sponsored by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation).  Also, he was a founding member, curriculum developer and first instructor for the JEM (Junior Entrepreneurs of Minnesota) program housed within the Carlson School of Management and sponsored by the Office for Business & Community Economic Development at the University of Minnesota and lead that program this past summer as well.

Fine was the first, First Tuesday Keynote Speaker, of the new mellennium speaking in January, 2000.  He was also a keynote speaker for the MISRC. 

Fine received his MBA from the Carlson School of Management and his BA in Economics from the University of Minnesota.  In the past, Fine has held an accounting certification as a Certified Public Accountant.  Fine has also held securities certifications that include Series 7 (General Securities Representative), Series 24 (General Securities Principal), Series 28 (Operations Principal) and Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent Laws). 

Outside of the Carlson School of Management, Fine has also been a management consultant, public accountant, chief financial officer, investment banker and business owner.  In addition to teaching, Fine periodically provides management consulting, strategic plan facilitation and financing advisory work to companies.
