Harvard Medical School

Dr. Ajay K. Singh is Senior Associate Dean for Postgraduate Medical Education at Harvard Medical School and Director, Master in Medical Sciences in Clinical Investigation (MMSCI) Program. He leads a vibrant group of faculty and staff in developing and overseeing postgraduate medical education at HMS, as well as the Master's program in Clinical Investigation. He has been Executive Director for the Dubai Harvard Foundation of Medical Research since 2008.

Dr. Singh completed his undergraduate and medical training in England at University College London School of Medicine. He moved to Boston in 1987 for his clinical and research renal fellowship at Tufts-New England Medical Center, which he finished in 1992, when he joined the Tufts University faculty. In 1998 he moved to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital — one of the principal teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School — as Clinical Director of the Renal Division and Director, Dialysis Services and Associate Professor of Medicine at HMS.

Dr. Singh’s interests are in clinical research – with a particular focus on the anemia of chronic kidney disease. He has led groundbreaking studies in anemia of kidney disease, including the CHOIR study, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine, and well as being a member of the steering committees for the TREAT and DRIVE studies. More recently, he has taken on the role of leading the ASCEND Clinical development program - a phase 3 program for the development of a novel propel hydroxyls inhibitor Daprodustat. The trial is aiming to recruit 7500 patients in over countries.

Dr. Singh currently leads the office of Postgraduate Medical Education at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, and in this capacity leads several HMS CME courses. He is the author of over 160 original contributions and review articles, as well as author/editor of 11 books in internal medicine and nephrology. Dr. Singh is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London, and has an MBA from Boston University.
