Adam Malloy

Professor, courses in Community and Social Services Management

Biography

I am an educator and a community builder.

I pioneered a popular education program with underprivileged communities in Himalayan India. I use interactive arts and play-based pedagogy to develop critical literacy skills and leadership aptitude with children and youth in the region.

As a community organizer, I use social and co-operative enterprise to democratize local economies, and build inclusive, sustainable, affordable, and resilient communities. I have served in various capacities on the Board of Directors for three co-operative housing agencies, and three community development agencies. What I love most about these roles is my work as a community educator and youth mentor.

I have designed and taught post-secondary courses in Peace and Conflict Studies, Political Science, and Community Development.

My research uses empowering community-based and anti-oppressive methods to mobilize against injustice. My scholarship has been recognized by merit awards from: the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada; the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities; the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada; the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute; King’s University College; McMaster University; the Balsillie School of International Affairs; the Sisters of St. Joseph; and the University of Waterloo.
