Structured Problem Solving teaches methods for solving messy, unstructured challenges with no clear “right answer.” You will emerge with expertise managing the process of problem solving in a structured manner, from framing the problem to communicating a compelling case for action.
HOW IT WORKS
Structured Problem Solving is designed for professionals who are often tasked with complex business challenges. In this professional development course, you’ll learn the value of a structured problem-solving approach, develop your own action plan, and execute that plan to find a solution. This executive education course applies to the Strategy and Innovation Certificate and the Business of Excellence Certificate.
DEFINE AND BREAK DOWN THE PROBLEM
Understand the need for a structured approach to problem-solving, and recognize the principles that enable effective work. Get clarity on the real problem to be solved, identify the issues to be addressed, and structure them into a hierarchy that enables focused work.
PLAN THE WORK
Identify the tasks required to work through the issues, and identify sources of information and input. Prepare a clear statement of work, and organize tasks into manageable workstreams.
WORK THE PLAN
Engage external players and condition project team members for high-impact problem-solving. Facilitate insightful conclusions from the work and creative thinking about potential solutions.
BUILD THE CASE
Build and test a case for action based on strong logic and evidence.
MAKE THE CASE AND START THE CHANGE
Communicate the case for action in a persuasive manner to generate buy-in and action.
