About the course
UNDERSTAND THE IMPACT OF AN AUTONOMOUS FUTURE
This online course focuses on identifying a range of potential positive and negative implications that could result when autonomous vehicles (AV) and services are deployed in large volumes — including how these systems will be used; who they will serve; some of the remaining societal challenges; how operators are trained and informed; as well as new and continued safety considerations.

TIME COMMITMENT AND WORK PACE
Each course contains 4-6 hours of online instruction divided into shorter modules to make it easy to learn at your own pace.
You will have 180 days from your course start date to complete the course.
Successful completion requires you to view all course modules and receive an 80% passing grade on the course assessment. Upon completing these requirements, you will earn a digital badge for your resume or LinkedIn page.
CERTIFICATE OPTION AND SPECIALIZATIONS
Upon successful completion of 4 CCET courses, you will receive a U-M Certificate of Achievement.
Select 4 courses from one concentration to deepen your knowledge in a subject or area. If you choose a specialization, your certificate will note the specialization you completed.
PREREQUISITES & TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
There are no prerequisites for this course. A bachelor's degree in a science, engineering, or technical field is recommended but not required.

- Outline a range of “unknowns” associated with how autonomous/highly automated vehicles and services might be used
- Illustrate that populations that could most benefit from vehicle automation are not necessarily those which the systems are being design for (at least yet)
- Describe how equity in mobility needs to be carefully considered when manufacturing and deploying AVs
- Illustrate how vehicle safety will remain a challenge for decades to come, and some new safety challenges that will be created
