About the course

Foundations of mobility module

This module defines mode choice and examines its importance to transportation planners. You will learn about traditional and new modes of transportation, how travelers make choices, and predictive mode choice models. The module also covers data for mode choice and its impact on quality of life — and whether we can change travelers’ mode choice behavior. Flexible transit, multi-modal transportation, freight mode choice, and the effects of emerging mobility technology on mode choice are also explored.

Successful completion of module topics, readings, and testing assessment with an 80% pass rate is required to earn a digital badge for this module.

The program requires a minimum of the following common set of tools and resources:

A high-speed internet connection outside of a corporate firewall is required to access online course lectures. Online students will need the following:

  • Windows 10, Mac OS X v10.5+, or equivalent OS
  • 4GB RAM
  • 4GB free disk space
  • A monitor capable of 1280 x 720 resolution
  • Sound card and speakers
  • High Speed Internet access (LAN, Cable modem or DSL)
  • Latest version of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari
  • Adobe Reader 10+
  • Cookies enabled in your web browser

By the end of the module, you will understand what mode choice is, why mode choice modeling is important, and the implications of mode choice decisions.
