STEM education weaves together concepts from Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and applies them to authentic learning problems, bridging the gap between school, community and global issues.
Educators have a critical role to play in creating dynamic environments for STEM, and yet learning to design these interdisciplinary or even transdisciplinary projects is challenging. More support is needed to develop meaningful STEM learning experiences. In this short, non-credit course, we will share a roadmap for developing STEM/STEAM projects. Learn to design an authentic STEM/STEAM learning experience that you can implement in your classroom and explore how to replicate the process.
This online course is presented in partnership with the Center for Technology and School Change (CTSC) at Teachers College, Columbia University. The Center for Technology and School Change (CTSC) at Teachers College, Columbia University designs professional development programs for schools and districts – both nationally and abroad – to engage teachers and leaders in rethinking education for the digital age. Utilizing CTSC’s research-based model for Innovating Instruction©, programs engage teachers as designers of rigorous learning experiences, and consider approaches to leadership that grow and sustain transformative school environments.
Join us in this four-week interactive online course and learn to:
- Design an innovative STEM project your students will remember.
- Create a deeper understanding of project design and technology integration.
- Develop an awareness of formative approaches for assessing students’ work using technology.
- Build an online network of teachers to support your ongoing professional learning.
- Takes place over 3 weeks
- 20 hours time commitment
- Work independently or with a team of teachers from your school to design a STEM project that you can implement in your school.
- Students will be supported by a Teachers College facilitator
