About the course
The course of modern world history has been deeply influenced and fashioned by technological revolutions starting with printing in the 15th century, industrial in the 18th century, and information in the present day. Each of these revolutions profoundly impacted economies, industry structures, consumer, labour markets etc. With these new technologies came new social institutions that came to dominate modern day life. Every revolution also spawned a pioneering set of individuals with a unique mindset who were at the forefront to harness the power of the new technology to create riches for themselves and for society at large. The French economist, Jean-Baptiste Say, was the first to denote them with a new moniker 'Entrepreneur' in 1803.
With the current information revolution, we are experiencing first-hand the powerful forces of entrepreneurship in the economy and in society. However, when we look beyond the hype, we are confronted with the harsh reality of the struggle in surviving and thriving in environments that are volatile, unpredictable, complex and ambiguous. The sobering fact is that survival is extremely difficult in such environments. Research has shown that an entrepreneur’s mindset plays a critical role in ensuring successful survival and growth in such environments.
Successful entrepreneurs have distinguished psychological dimensions, leadership perspectives, and a strategic orientation that set them apart. Understanding how these people view the world and practice the entrepreneurial mindset can help entrepreneurs and executives acquire a similar orientation as well.
The programme, Developing Entrepreneurial Mindset and Leadership, focuses on uncovering patterns in entrepreneurial orientation and how specific ways of 'Thinking', 'Being' and ‘Doing’, can be sources of competitive advantage and success. The programme aims to present participants with a set of practices and perspectives that will help them in fostering entrepreneurial thinking and leadership behaviour in their ventures. It will help them explore the strategic orientation required in creating successful ventures and will also aid them in understanding how teams and human resources can be guided more effectively to create better impact. Specifically, the emphasis is not only on what the entrepreneur can do, but also on who he or she is and how they can deploy their psychological capabilities as an instrument of growth and change.
In addition to exploring an entrepreneurial mindset, the programme will also highlight practices that are useful in developing an ‘intrapreneurial mindset’, which will enable managers and leaders to facilitate ‘corporate entrepreneurship’ in their organizations.
Explore personality traits, motivations and behavioural competencies required to be an entrepreneurial person.
Develop requisite skills and competencies associated with leadership, strategic orientation, and human resource management in entrepreneurial contexts.
The programme will help participants gain insight into their personalities, and how their “Self” aids or hinders their progress.
It will enable an exchange of rich leadership, strategic orientation, and human resource management perspectives facilitated by an inter-disciplinary set of IIMA faculty and industry experts.
It will provide a space to explore an entrepreneurial mindset through play, creation, experimentation, empathy, discussion, reflection and integrative practices.
