About the course
The Advanced Management Achievement Course is a 3-week highly specialised programme designed for officers moving into management and executive careers. Through a mix of taught sessions, in-company visits and guest speakers, you will develop the confidence and management tools to take the next step into a new and unpredictable commercial environment.
The course has a long and successful track record in helping officers make the transition from your military career to the business world on leaving the Armed Forces. It shares the language, concepts and practices of business which are often unfamiliar to our delegates.
In the final week everyone takes part in a business simulation, where you will work in small teams to compete in an interactive game bringing everything together you have leant in your time with us.
In the supportive environment generated by our programme team and your fellow delegates, your new knowledge will inform key decisions you make on your next steps after the military.
You will leave the programme with:
- An in-depth understanding of how business operates
- The skills to communicate effectively in a business environment
- An appreciation of marketing in both service and industrial contexts
- The ability to comprehend and use financial data
- Experience of the cutting edge thinking of experts in their field
- A powerful network of fellow participants to call upon in your new career
- The confidence to seek an executive or managerial role in any business.
The programme examines key business themes to prepare delegates with a full picture of the economic environment.
These topics include: Strategy, Marketing, Human Resources, Economics, Financial Accounting and Management, Business Management including Change Management and topical business issues.
In the first week an overview is given of the basic concepts within each subject area. During the second week ideas are further developed and an understanding of their application to business discussed.
During the third week the relevance of pre-course knowledge and course learning within the business context is more fully realised, and the application of ideas by business managers in management situations is explored.
Access to structured industrial research together with organised visits provides essential learning in an environment which is ideal for the transition to a non-military management career. The teaching style is open and proactive with a mixture of lectures, tutorials, case studies, group work and research time.
