Esther joined the Bolton NHS foundation Trust as Trust Secretary in 2008 having spent the early years of her career in clinical roles, initially as a psychiatric nurse followed by 20 years as an orthotist.

Esther's responsibilities as Trust Secretary include ensuring good information flows between the board and the governors and between senior management and non-executive directors, as well as facilitating induction and assisting with professional development for Board members. Esther is responsible for advising the board, through the chairman, on corporate governance matters and is responsible to the board for ensuring that board procedures are complied with.
