Carolyn Becker, MD, is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Marshall A. Wolf Master Clinician Educator in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) in Boston, MA. She completed her undergraduate work in Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, received a Master's Degree in Sociology at the University of Illinois, and obtained her MD from Harvard Medical School. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago then returned to Boston for a clinical and research fellowship in Endocrinology at Massachusetts General Hospital.
She spent the next 20 years working as an endocrinologist in private practice in Danbury CT and Westchester County NY and then as associate director of the osteoporosis center at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. In 2007, she joined the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension at BWH as a Master Clinician, specializing in osteoporosis and metabolic bone disorders. Dr. Becker is Co-Director of the annual BWH Intensive Review of Internal Medicine and a frequent lecturer for students, residents, and fellows. She is an invited speaker at numerous local, national, and international conferences.
Dr. Becker served on the ABIM Subspecialty Board in Endocrinology for 6 years and from 2003-2007, served as the first Vice President (Physician-in-Practice) for the Endocrine Society. She has been a member of many committees of the Endocrine Society including Special Programs, Clinical Affairs, Nominating, Diversity and Inclusion, and the Awards committees. She was Chair of the annual Clinical Endocrinology Update Steering Committee for 3 years and currently heads the Calcium and Bone section of the Endocrine Board Review.
Dr. Becker has won a number of awards including Excellence in Teaching awards from Harvard Medical School, Distinguished Clinician from BWH, and the Outstanding Educator Award from the Endocrine Society.
