Carolina Barreto is a renewable energy professional with more than 10 years of international experience. Ms. Barreto is part of Tetra Tech’s Clean Energy Team working on the identification, development, and implementation of donor funded energy projects worldwide. This work involves the development of feasibility studies, technical analysis, engineering, planning, design and construction of renewable energy projects, in particular solar PV, wind and geothermal technologies. She has worked as the technical lead on the monitoring and evaluation plans of energy projects that included the design, installation, collection and treatment of data acquisition systems for the renewable energy projects. As a project developer, Ms. Barreto, has designed and executed renewable energy projects in multi-cultural settings while managing multidisciplinary teams. She has conducted over fifty training workshops in renewable energy for multiple audiences including technical staff of electric utilities, government officials and small holder farmers. She has extensive knowledge in utilizing renewable energy technologies for climate change adaptation and mitigation as a tool for poverty eradication and green jobs creation. She has experience is creating business models for projects that combine income generating renewable energy applications in rural development settings. Ms. Barreto conducted a feasibility study of a utility scale PV installation connected to the local distribution grid in Kosovo. She provided technical support for electricity grid backup systems in 42 health facilities in Haiti and Guyana. She designed, installed, monitored and maintained more than 100 renewable energy systems in 86 villages in Ancash Peru that addressed basic needs of water supply and water purification, food production, medical care, vaccine refrigeration, communication, housing, heating, and transportation. Ms. Barreto provided technical assistance to Nicaraguan project developers on Clean Development Mechanism procedures in order to obtain Emission Reduction. In Mali, Ms. Barreto set up a photovoltaic cottage industry and start-up Solar Energy Company, Afriq Power, using locally assembled PV panels. She designed, modelled and installed 8 solar grid tied and stand-alone systems under this USDA funded grant to introduce renewable energy to the Tohono O’odham Native American Nation. She is fluent in French and Spanish.
