Ari Betof

Ari M. Betof, Ed.D. is head of Boston University Academy (Boston, MA). He was previously head of school at New Garden Friends School (Greensboro, NC) and director of institutional advancement at George School (Newtown, PA) where he had oversight of the school’s admission, communications and marketing, and fundraising functions. Dr. Betof began his teaching career at Northfield Mount Hermon School (Northfield, MA) where he taught physics and math, coached varsity soccer and tennis, and was a dorm parent.

Dr. Betof is a lecturer in University of Pennsylvania’s Mid-Career Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership and in the Penn GSE School Leadership Master’s Program. He is also a faculty member in the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) School Leadership Institute. Dr. Betof has been a Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Circle of Excellence judge. He is a frequent guest speaker on organizational sustainability and independent school leadership and governance.

Dr. Betof has served on the Board of Directors of the Friends Council on Education since 2009. He has also served as a trustee of Newtown Friends School (Newtown, PA) and the Cambridge Friends School (Cambridge, MA).

Dr. Betof earned his doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with a B.S. in physics and mathematics from the Guilford College honors program. His 2011 doctoral dissertation, Leading in the Light: A Study of Financial and Organizational Sustainability of Friends Schools, was awarded with distinction.

Dr. Betof is married with two daughters and lives in Brookline, MA.
