Andia Laura Chakava is currently an independent investment professional with over 15 years experience in fund management. Is passionate about facilitating both foreign and intra Africa investment in the continent, increasing financial literacy through investor education and promoting gender lens investing. She has been instrumental in the set up of two fund management companies in Kenya (Old Mutual Investment Services and Alpha Africa Asset Managers) where she served in each as Managing Director. She is also the co-author of a 2017 research published by the Graca Machel Trust called ‘Growth Barriers Affecting Female Entrepreneurs in East Africa’ and is currently part of the conceptual team to create a gender lens investment vehicle for Africa. She brings great expertise in pioneering investment products in new markets, business unit management, investment strategy formulation and implementation, deal sourcing, capital raising, product development, strategic partnership negotiations and investor relations. Ms. Chakava is also skilled at stake-holder management, inter-disciplinary team leadership and project management. She was the youngest female Managing director of a non-family business in Kenya in 2008 at age 30 and one of the first female fund managers in the region. She was voted into ‘top 40 under 40’ by the East African Business Daily for two consecutive years in 2008 and 2009. Voted ‘most influential woman in Africa – Financial Services’ in 2014 by CEO Magazine. Voted as one of the ‘50 people to watch in Africa’ by Africa Report in 2014 Ms. Chakava is currently a non-executive director of East Africa Educational Publishers and of Kenya Women Holding. She is the current Kenya Chapter Chair of New Faces New Voices a Pan African Advocacy group promoting women’s economic empowerment founded by Graca Machel with a presence in 17 African countries.
Is a graduate of York University in Toronto where she obtained an honours degree in Economics and she has a Master of Business Administration degree with merit from Cass Business School London. Andia enjoys giving motivational talks, travelling and conducting capacity building for women entrepreneurs.
