Said Business School

Alex Connock has academic, commercial and non-executive roles in digital media.

Academically, he is Fellow in Management Practice (Marketing) at Saïd Business School. In 2019-20 he is teaching undergraduate, graduate and executive education, with a specialism in digital media, arts and entertainment. He has a PhD in video optimisation for e-commerce, and continuing research interest in the field. He is also Senior Tutor at the National Film and Television School of the Creative Entrepreneurship Masters, entrepreneur in residence at INSEAD and visiting professor at Salford University. He has degrees from Oxford (PPE) Columbia (Journalism) INSEAD (MBA) and Salford (PhD).

Commercially, Alex has created and grown multiple media companies, most recently founding production company Missile Digital Studios in 2017, after leading a team which substantially grew TV and digital production business Endemol Shine North (now Workerbee) from 2012-17. In 1998-2011 he co-founded, and ran as CEO, the media group Ten Alps (now Zinc Media) with Bob Geldof - producing hundreds of programmes for UK and international broadcasters, as well as substantial digital and branded content output, including the UK government's Teachers TV project. In the 1990s he developed TV formats and the radio business at Planet 24. He has been six times shortlisted as Entrepreneur of the Year.

Non-executive roles are directorships at UNICEF UK and The Halle Orchestra. He is also Deputy Chair of the creative industries committee of the UK5G Innovation Network and a voting member at BAFTA.
