About the course

What Is An Executive Immersion Program?

The digital disruption of telecommunications is already underway, with even more radical changes just around the corner. As 5G becomes more widespread, the technology will power the internet of things, smart cities and autonomous vehicles. But even before we get to that stage, meeting a growing need for mobile data and seamless customer experiences will remain priorities for established telecoms providers. Startups, meanwhile, continue to innovate, building the products and services that answer to other key market demands such as expanding internet connectivity to underserved geographies. Our immersion program will educate you in all of these trends, connect you with the companies pioneering groundbreaking solutions and inspire you to turn your own company into a leading innovator capable of long-term growth.

What Will I Learn?

Our immersion program will show you how, why and by whom the traditional model of education is being disrupted. It will also teach you how to capitalize on the trends and technologies driving this digital transformation so that you can achieve innovation within your own organization. We cover topics such as:

Digital platforms are among the biggest disruptors of the education sector. Many of these portals cut out legacy institutions, using the scale made possible by the web to offer thousands of courses to anyone with an internet connection for a fraction of the cost of traditional providers. This new model of education challenges established academic organizations to adapt through building their own digital alternatives to the classroom or partnering with nascent tech companies.

Artificial intelligence

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) to education is making it possible to provide every student with a responsive, personalized learning experience. A powerful tool for teachers and independent learners, AI-powered platforms adjust to each student, providing them with a tailored program to increase engagement and improve outcomes.

The Evolution of Video

Although not a disruptive technology in its own right, video is proving to be one of the key mediums in the transformation of education. It is the delivery channel for thousands of online courses and is also often combined in innovative new ways with other digital media to create interactive experiences. Online video learning is now a major industry, with several companies vying to lead the sector.

Analytics and Big Data

Measuring and analyzing the learning process from all sides has become a key focus of digital education efforts. Data-intensive software-as-a-serivce (SaaS) applications are transforming many aspects of the educational sector, including administration of schools, student performance and parent-teacher communication. These platforms often work alongside other technologies such as artificial intelligence and video to provide a fundamentally new classroom experience.

How is the education sector changing under the influence of digital technologies and where is this journey taking us? Why is the digital revolution happening now and what are the forces driving its expansion? These are the questions we answer on day 1 of our immersion program The Future of Education We explain how startups have capitalized on industry trends, new technologies and the ready availability of venture funding to create companies that replace or supplement traditional institutions and channels of learning. We visit companies such as: Coursera, an online learning platform with 30 million users; Altschool, a network of institutions designed by educators, technologists and entrepreneurs that offers personalized learning; and Booktrack, one of the leaders in the AI-for-education subsector, having raised some $10 million in venture funding to date. The company’s technology automatically creates soundtracks to match any text or voice. Other possible participating companies: Udemy, Udacity, Wikimedia Foundation, MasterClass, The Minerva Project

The journey continues on day two with an exploration of the limits of the disruption to the education sector as they exist today. How many areas are seeing radical change? What is the nature of this change and how fast is it moving? We answer these questions through visits to startups operating in a wide range of niches. Potential meetings include: Degreed, an online learning platform for individuals and organizations; Edmodo, a portal for communication and collaboration between educators and learners; and ClassDojo, a communication app for primary schools that helps parents, teachers and students share feedback, messages, photos and videos about what’s happening at school and at home. Other possible participating companies: Remind, Quisic, BrightBytes, Epic!, Clever

Day three of the immersion program is dedicated to the technologies fueling the disruption of the education sector. We hear from experts in artificial intelligence, mobile, internet of things, and big data analytics to learn what these technologies can currently do and what they will offer in the future. We visit companies such as Betterup, UniversityNow and Kidaptive to see how they use emerging technologies to create competitive advantages and provide innovative, market-disrupting products and services. Other possible participating companies: PresenceLearning, Achieva, Brightwheel, Quizlet, TeachScape

Having seen and heard how digital is disrupting the education sector on days 1 to 3, on day 4 of our immersion program we challenge attendees to turn words into action. Participatory workshops with leading Silicon Valley experts on design thinking, design sprints, venture capital and open innovation provide executives with the blueprints and frameworks they need to deliver innovation within their own organization. We analyze how traditional educational institutions are adapting to digital and survey the industry’s success in collaborating with the startup ecosystem. We visit companies such as Kno, now acquired by Intel, as well as Hotchalk and Rafter, two Silicon Valley companies that have been working with the education sector for more than a decade. Other potential meetings include the big tech companies such as Amazon, Google, Apple and Oracle to see what role they will play in digitization of education and learn how they maintain cultures of continuous innovation. Other possible participating companies: RaiseMe, PowerSchool, Simplilearn,, Declara

What’s next for the digital disruption of education? Day 5 brings the program to a close with its sights firmly set on the future. We learn about trends still in their infancy and meet the companies seeking to capitalize on those trends. Possible visits include: Lambda School, where a radically new model for education is helping uncover untapped sources of talent; Roboterra, where AI is being combined with robotics in products designed to stimulate student creativity whilst simultaneously building the next generation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics graduates; and Volley, an enterprise education company whose AI platform automatically generates and recommends learning and research for knowledge workers.
