About the course

This course is intended to help you cultivate strategic foresight. In particular, it is focused on providing tools to predict how changes in technology, demographics, environment, and society will affect your agency.

Recognizing where and how these changes are likely to occur, and developing capabilities to respond to them in a timely and cost-effective manner, is critical for each agency’s long term success. We draw upon long-term forecasting methods and scenario planning, along with an analysis of specific large-scale trends such as the aging population and improving artificial intelligence, to develop a more informed perspective on what will come next and how much uncertainty remains in our understanding of it.

Finally, we examine the individual and organizational biases that underpin the Cassandra syndrome, the tendency of organizations to dismiss valid concerns, and how it can be overcome.
