Description

This practical and highly interactive program will improve the quality of your strategic decisions and show you how to create a robust decision process.

In module one you’ll learn how to apply various strategic tools to generate and evaluate options, and select the best one. Module two will show you how to design and manage a decision process that deals with the biases that typically affect strategic decisions.

This course will:

  • Help you understand the difference between strategic and operational thinking

  • Enable you to decide which tools to use to develop strategy

  • Equip you with the techniques for managing the decision-making process

  • Give you essential tips and alert you to the pitfalls in making strategic decisions

Program overview:

This practical and highly interactive program will help participants improve the quality of their strategic decision-making. By reflecting on how strategy is formulated, they will come to understand how their future decisions can afect your organization. The program includes a day-long simulation including a decisions process in which participants can feel first-hand the pressures and strains inherent in making strategic decisions. The opportunity to immediately apply their learning will enable your managers to make more robust decisions in the future. This program is divided into two: first, a two-day module on strategy tools, and then a three-day module on formulating strategy and designing an efective strategy process. Though we encourage participants to attend both modules for the maximum benefit, they may choose to attend just one.

Participant outcomes

As a participant, you will:

  • Learn to use practical tools for developing strategy, identify potential biases, and manage the decision process
  • Understand the diference between operational and strategic thinking
  • Improve the rigor and breadth of your strategic thinking
  • Improve the quality of strategic decisions within your organisation
  • Develop robust processes to address biased decisions, and how to stimulate the creation of new strategic options

Organizational outcomes

The program gives participants a thorough grasp of modern concepts of strategy analysis. It also highlights how strategic decisions are heavily influenced by the process used to arrive at the decision —the way managers deal with uncertainty, the internal politics, and power groupings in your organization. Participants will return to work able to manage the process of decision-making.

Who should attend

Managers in either general management or functional positions who want to understand how best to structure and execute a strategic decision. The program is particularly well-suited to managers who increasingly find themselves involved in determining function strategy or contributing to the development of business level strategies.
