About the course

Policymakers, editors and business leaders tend to be pressed for time and receive too much information. Researchers and campaigners who want their arguments to influence policy must learn how to communicate data and key messages as clearly as possible.

Drawing on their own experiences, students will discuss the do's and don’ts of publishing pieces aimed at achieving impact. They will analyse the strengths and weaknesses of selected papers.

The course will help students gain an understanding of the different publication formats – from policy briefs to blog posts. The seminar will cover writing concise and accessible articles, including how to structure an argument, write an executive summary and formulate recommendations. Students will develop a strategy for the dissemination of a piece of research which targets the right audiences. Students will write and pitch their own op-eds.

This skills training is offered in the open enrolment programme and as part of the Executive MPA programme.
