About the course

Almost 2500 years ago, Socrates said, “to know thyself is the beginning of wisdom.” In today’s parlance, he was embracing the value of emotional intelligence. Responding with empathy and intelligence to other people’s situations requires a high level of self-awareness and self-control. Emotional intelligence drives us to recognize and acknowledge our own feelings and the feelings of others, and to use information combined with emotion to communicate effectively.

Whether in times of adversity, conflict, or everyday communication, emotionally intelligent leaders are able to balance honest expression against courtesy, consideration and respect. In this course you will evaluate your own emotional intelligence, establish strategies to better respond to feelings and emotions, accurately acknowledge and manage the emotions of others, use verbal and non-verbal methods to temper emotions, and establish ways to build trust and establish psychological safety.

You'll Learn How To...

  • Recognize and define elements of emotional intelligence (EQ)
  • Apply listening skills to gather information and build trusting relationships
  • Use emotional intelligence to manage yourself and your relationships
  • Recognize differences between your own emotions and the emotions of others
  • Deliver feedback in an honest and kind way to get the outcomes you want
  • Evaluate your own emotional intelligence
