This course introduces participants to the fundamentals of program evaluation, which is essential to the successful implementation of policy. Program evaluation is increasingly important to federal, provincial and municipal governments across Canada as they search for increased efficiency and effectiveness in their actions. Non-profit agencies and other third sector actors are also under constant scrutiny to demonstrate meaningful outcomes. Program evaluation techniques are being used to assess outcomes over a range of government and not-for-profit initiatives – from social programs, to economic development programs, to environmental programs, to labour market programs and more.
Directors Education Program
The Asper School of Business delivers the Directors Education Programs (DEP) jointly developed by the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. The ICD is the only professional organization representing the director community in Canada. It is committed to the universal practice of good corporate governance by fostering excellence in directorship.
As a successful director and leader, you have undoubtedly spent a great deal of time managing and guiding the one constant in business – change. The recent financial crisis and the rise in shareholder activism have led to a new brand of scrutiny, and an accompanying set of new issues that boards must grapple with. New perspectives are needed on strategic positioning; compensation practices must be re-evaluated; risk oversight measures must be re-engineered; growth opportunities need to be re-examined; and the investment in new technologies has to be reconsidered.
It is this environment of constant change – and the need to respond to it effectively – that has fueled the momentum and interest among directors to go back to the classroom. With over 3,200 graduates, the ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program (DEP) is the only program of its kind in Canada that bears the seal of the director community itself. In changing times, it will help prepare you to ask the right questions in the boardroom, and help equip you with the tools to make the right decisions.
The DEP is focused primarily on large-organization governance with an emphasis on for-profit corporations. As such, the course is most appropriate for directors with for-profit governance experience or those directors and professionals with near-term opportunity to serve on for-profit boards.
