Middle and Senior Management Executives
About the course
In early August,2016, the Harvard Business Review hosted a roundtable with the top three executives of 2016 list to get their views on short-term pressure, managing millennials, and various other issues affecting business. One of the executives happened to be WPP CEO Martin Sorrell. Sorrell was asked what the most important challenges CEOs face these days. CEO Sorrell responded, ‘the main challenge is volatility. That includes geopolitical issues, like the BREXIT vote, the Middle-East, China, and the US election. I am not pleading poverty or over difficulty, but all of this complexity makes it harder to do our jobs.’ The significance of these words are being felt unambiguously much more in today’s world which is suffering from a global pandemic in the name of the Corona virus. Within a very short span of time the pandemic has fundamentally altered the way we connect with the world. The world of business in general and international business in particular is no exception.
This course is about looking into some of the contemporary geopolitical issues impacting the world of business. Breakdown of global supply chains, trade wars, technological nationalism, political risk, energy security, and the race to develop new vaccination are manifestations of the tectonic shifts emerging from the Corona virus. The course is for those who aspire to have a more informed understanding of the various geopolitical factors which have been influential for some time but have got accelerated in the wake of the Corona virus and are going to play an overwhelming role in the Post-Covid world. Apart from some of the latest developments, the course will deal with certain themes which are part of the regular discourse in the international and national media.
