This course is designed for new program and project management professionals seeking their FAC-P/PM level 1 certification.

About the course

Many project managers have trouble with the collaboration and communication that comes with being a member of an integrated project team. You will participate in exercises that reinforce concepts learned in the prerequisite course. You will craft and communicate solutions to simulated project management challenges, including identifying capability gaps and selecting a solution. This course follows successful completion of the online FPM 120 (Part I) entry-level fundamentals course or FPM 120A & 120B (Acquisition Fundamentals of Project and Program Management).

Course Format: Individual, small-group, and large-group exercises; lecture, discussion, and case study; Problem-based scenarios and application exercises

Learning Objectives

  • Introduce FPM 121 course material and review of FPM 120 series course content
  • Examine program/project performance in terms of budget, schedule, and scope
  • Integrate multiple roles and responsibilities as invested resources to make program/project decisions
  • Justify program/project management decisions as part of problem-solving exercises
  • Develop elements of key program/project management deliverables to plan a program or project throughout its life cycle
  • Define the process for developing program specification requirements and performance work statement that defines the project, addressing roles and missions
  • Describe the source selection process, acquisition planning, market research, request for proposal (RFP), and evaluation of proposals and contract award
  • Connect principles of systems engineering to monitor and control a program/project
  • Interpret information in case studies, real-world scenarios, and project summaries
  • Examine program/project performance in terms of budget, schedule, and scope
  • Review and summarize FPM 121 course objectives
