Who should attend

A minimum of seven years of professional experience is preferred. And, no GRE or GMAT are required.

Degree & GPA Requirement

Students must have a bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 minimum GPA to apply to the certificate program.

Recommendations

Two letters of Recommendation are required for admission.

Personal Statement

A personal statement (maximum length of 500 words) explaining why the applicant wants to pursue the certificate and how obtaining this certificate would contribute to the attainment of the applicant’s professional goals.

Resume or Curriculum Vitae

Applicants must upload a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) illustrating work experience.

Transcripts

International Applicants

TOEFL or IELTS scores: Only for students who did not receive their undergraduate or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or from a university where English is the language of instruction for the entire institution.

About the course

Develop and hone the skills to effectively lead in today’s complex, dynamic policy environment. ECPL students fulfill the five course requirements for their program over the course of 12-months.

Preparing Professionals to Advance Their Career

The Executive Certificate in Policy Leadership (ECPL) is an interdisciplinary program designed for executives and high-performing mid-career level professionals who require education at the strategic level in policy and policy-making, along with leadership skills.

Students participate in five hybrid courses each composed of a five-day, in-person residency experience integrated with interactive online learning over a two week period.

Developed for Working Professionals

Students participate in five hybrid courses each composed of a five-day, in-person residency experience integrated with interactive online learning over a two week period.

Interdisciplinary Curriculum

The ECPL is an interdisciplinary program that interweaves economics and political science with public policy, administration, and leadership. Central to each course is a focus on two or more 21st century leadership characteristics: leading change, leading people, managing performance, driving mission and business success, and building coalitions and partnerships.

A tentative course schedule is as follows:

Fall Semester (6 credits)

  • MPPL 710 – Public Policy Process for Executives
  • MPPL 750 – Communication for Executives

Spring Semester (6 credits)

  • MPPL 745 – Negotiation and Conflict Management
  • MPPL 730 – Public Budgeting & Financial Management

Summer Semester (3 credits)

  • MPPL 740 – Executive Decision Making

Potential to Complete the Executive Master Program

Students who complete the Certificate successfully may apply to the full Executive Master in Policy Leadership (EMPL) and if admitted, transfer the credits they have taken in the Certificate program toward the full EMPL master’s degree.
