Who should attend
The course is addressed to professionals with 5+ years of professional experience (15 years on average), fluent in English and interested in understanding the role ethics plays in IOs and what are the tools, frameworks and strategies to address common ethical issues within the international development environment.
About the course
The course aims at raising awareness and sensitivity to the values and ethical issues inherent in ‘mission driven’ organizations. It examines the role played by ethics in International Organizations and provides the tools and strategies to successfully address their specific ethical issues. The course explores a handful of ethical frameworks, which can serve as launch pads for understanding the role of ethics in International Organizations and its relation with both individual and organizational aspects. Issues such as conflicts between personal and organizational values/culture; the role of ethics in decision-making processes; and the importance of the development of ethics programs and an ethical culture in an organization will be discussed
What you'll be working on
The course aims at:
- Introducing ethics in the context of international organizations together with the peculiarity of responsibilities attached to working in this environment;
- Exploring current ethical practices and issues, such as whistleblowing policies, loyalty to the organization and gender equality;
- Analyizing the transition from compliance with ethics to adopting an ethical culture..
