Description

This course is intended to meet the minimum standards of proficiency in the personal safety and social responsibilities, personal survival techniques, elementary first aid, fire prevention and firefighting training requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as per Resolution A.891 (21) Recommendations on Training of Personnel on Mobile Offshore Units. The course also incorporates SEATAG's Helicopter Safety and Escape Training (HUET) course.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the delegates will be able to:

  • Acquire basic knowledge on offshore safety induction emergency training
  • Understand offshore hazards, their control and consequences
  • Understand how offshore safety is regulated and managed
  • Practice procedures for reporting incidents and accidents, rescue techniques during emergencies
  • Demonstrate the correct use of life saving apparatus
  • Carryout procedures of evacuation

Course Outline

Day 1

  • Introduction to offshore safety management systems
  • Survivor rescue techniques
  • Climbing scramble nets
  • Helicopter winching
  • Actions to take in emergencies
  • Basic Fire Fighting theory

Day 2

  • Living and working offshore
  • Practical uses of fire extinguishers, hose reels and fire blankets
  • Correct use of various personal Life Saving Apparatus
  • Theory plus practical escape through smoke, heat and darkness

Day 3

  • Deployment of life rings and associated equipment
  • Basic Life Support - DRABC
  • Modes of Evacuation
  • Expired Air Resuscitation and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

Day 4

  • Lifeboat procedures
  • Bleeding control and shock management
  • Boarding life rafts or buoyant apparatus
  • Hazards of Helicopter Over water Operations

Day 5

  • Safely Entering Water from Height
  • Safe helicopter operations - Pre ditching drills
  • Water Survival skills and techniques
  • Surface abandonment and Underwater Escape drills
