Description

Each year those who have completed the Advanced Leadership Corps (ALC) are invited to an alumni program.

The 2018 program, Leadership Lessons from Founders will be lead by Keith Allred.

The Founders were keenly aware in 1776 that no republic of any scale had ever lasted. Today, the United States stands as the most enduring and successful republic in history and representative government is the most dominant form of government in the world.

The Founders bent the arch of history by diagnosing popular government’s chief challenge more clearly than any previous generation and then devising a bold new solution to it. Republics usually failed, they concluded, because of partisan contention. To save the United States from the same fate, they separated powers more than any previous republic. Only solutions that attracted broad support should make it through the gauntlet. Solutions that could only attract narrow partisan support should be blocked.

Recent research reveals that Congress is now the most polarized in history. At a time when it’s needed more than ever, Keith Allred will discuss lessons from the Founders and modern social science research on how leaders can deliver the broadly supported solutions that the Constitution requires. Each participant will also develop strategies in a small working group for achieving success in a real-world cases they face where a broadly-supported solution is needed but difficult to achieve.

Registration is required to attend this program and it is only open to those who are graduates of the ALC. Please click on "Upcoming Offering" above for more information and to register.
