Shake-up at the top: IMD and LBS land game-changing new leaders

LBS Welcomes New Dean Sergey Guriev

London Business School appointed Sergey Guriev as its tenth Dean in August 2024. His global perspective, policy-making experience, and commitment to diversity and inclusion set him to take the institution to new heights during its 60th anniversary year.

Now, Guriev is bringing his wealth of experience and insight to LBS. “I am excited, honored and humbled to have been chosen as the new Dean of London Business School,” he said. “I strongly support the School’s mission and values, and am looking forward to working together with LBS’s outstanding team and alumni to make an impact on the way the world does business.”

Key points about the new Dean:
• Provost and Professor of Economics at Sciences Po before joining LBS
• Former Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
• Renowned researcher with publications in leading European and U.S. economic journals

LBS’s world-class faculty, recognized for academic research, and its diverse school community are poised to advance careers, transform organizations, and shape policy under Guriev’s leadership. The school’s campuses in London and Dubai serve as hubs for a prestigious global network inspired by stories of life-changing impact.

IMD Welcomes New President David Bach

David Bach officially took office as IMD President in September 2024 with a fresh perspective to one of the world’s leading business schools.
Bach, previously a Strategy and Political Economy Professor at IMD since 2020, aims to accelerate the school’s global impact through innovation. “IMD is one of the most vibrant meeting places for cutting-edge management practice and rigorous yet applied thought leadership anywhere,” Bach stated.

• PhD from UC Berkeley
• Award-winning teacher and writer
• Former Deputy Dean at Yale School of Management before joining IMD

Bach’s goal is ambitious: “I want us to become the world’s most impactful business school.” As IMD enters this new chapter, the business education world will be watching to see how Bach’s leadership shapes the future of management training and thought leadership.
