Columbia Business School opens a new building in Manhattan

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The opening of the new Columbia Business School (CBS) campus took place in Manhattanville, New York. Construction of the building began back in 2016 after winning an international design competition worth $600 million. The prize funded the largest expansion of Columbia University in history since its opening in 1897.

Each building includes private and public spaces and cafes, as well as two auditoriums with 201 and 274 seats known as Samberg and Cooperman Commons. The landscaping area of the square in front of the 8- and 11-story buildings was designed by James Corner and the buildings themselves were designed by the architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Two new buildings with an area of more than 492 000 square feet will become part of the future campus project, which is being implemented by 2030 and will occupy almost 17 acres. It is being handled by another architectural firm SOM and renowned architect Renzo Piano. The Ivy League school is proud of its expansion and expects to achieve LEED v3 Gold certification (green building certification). CBS business faculty campus is the most expensive of its kind so far.
