The need-blind policy is a college’s decision to not consider applicants’ financial situations when making admission decisions. Previously only six American universities and colleges maintained this policy for all students regardless of their citizenship or country of residence. In July, Bowdoin College joined Harvard University, Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale University, Dartmouth College, and Amherst College.
Commitment to a need-blind admission policy is part of Bowdoin’s program of access and affordability. The college also provides other financial aid for its students, such as automatically waived application fee in case of applying for aid, replacing loans with scholarships, and a need-based scholarship depending on the individual family situation.
Moreover, this year, Bowdoin not only adopted a need-blind admission policy but also guaranteed that all current and future students will be provided with a suite of technology tools, including a 13-inch MacBook Pro, iPad mini, and Apple Pencil, and access to a full range of course-specific software.
